According to two people acquainted with the inner workings of his campaign, former President Donald Trump intends to discontinue hosting outdoor rallies similar to the one in Butler, Pennsylvania, where he was shot during an attempted assassination this month.

The sources stated that while indoor rallies are the current plan, it is feasible that Trump will attend smaller outdoor gatherings or larger rallies in venues like stadiums, where there are more controlled entrances and no neighboring high ground concerns.

Requests for response on Tuesday night were not immediately answered by representatives of the Secret Service or the Trump campaign.

The day Kimberly Cheatle, the director of the Secret Service, announced her resignation, word leaked out about the change of locations. Cheatle accepted “full responsibility for the security lapse” in Pennsylvania, according to her resignation letter.

Tuesday night, Trump discussed her resignation over the phone with Newsmax, stating, “I recently learned that she is no longer with us, and I don’t believe she had many options.”

During campaign events, he continued, his team has been requesting more Secret Service members in recent months but “not getting them.”

Trump has made repeated references to his protection since the July 13 massacre, which also left a rallygoer dead and two others injured. Trump stated he felt comfortable inside during a walkthrough prior to his prime-time speech at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee last week, according to a person familiar with the situation.

A person familiar with the plans said that Trump’s team had canceled the outside arrival and greeting with fans prior of his convention speech due to the assassination attempt.

Trump also discussed an indoor rally he attended over the weekend in Michigan in his Newsmax interview.
