According to two law enforcement sources, federal investigators have identified thousands of linkages from the gunman’s online phone history, including searches regarding a young mass shooter in Michigan. The gunman attempted to kill former President Donald Trump.

According to the sources, Thomas Matthew Crooks, who was 15 years old when he shot and killed four classmates at Oxford High School in a suburban Detroit neighborhood in 2021, had searched on his phone on the shooting incident and the gunman. He received a life sentence in jail.

Prosecutors also filed an involuntary manslaughter allegation against James Crumbley, his father, and Jennifer Crumbley, following the incident. They were sentenced in April to 10 to 15 years in jail, making them the first parents in the United States to be held partially accountable for their child’s school shooting.

According to law enforcement sources, Crooks, 20, looked up depression disorder on the internet in the same month. He conducted research on chemical compounds and explosive materials for this kind of device in May. He also looked up an article on the Department of Homeland Security and improvised explosive devices at some time.

The sources also stated that over 14,000 connections and links to photos were discovered on his phone.

Investigators claim to have discovered pictures of Trump’s Saturday event in Butler, Pennsylvania, taken just before the shooting started at around 6 p.m.

Two attendees were injured and a former fire chief was killed in the incident, which also left the former president alive. During the mayhem at the Butler Farm Show, the gunman, who was armed with an AR-15-style rifle, was shot and killed. The shooting’s aftermath has drawn attention to law enforcement’s inadequate security measures and other preparation errors.

The gunman’s reason is still unknown; according to authorities, they think he acted alone and that he was not associated with any overt political ideology. Although he was a registered Republican, according to public records, he gave $15 to a progressive voting campaign in 2021. According to a senior law enforcement official, investigators also discovered that the gunman had specifically searched for Trump, a rally, and the Democratic National Committee this month.

The gunman attended Bethel High School in a Pittsburgh suburb with his parents, and some of his former classmates remember him as a quiet student with a tiny circle of friends.

In an interview with NBC News on Monday, an uncle named Mark Crooks said he hadn’t seen his nephew in years and that the family wasn’t close because they were private. In addition, he claimed not to be aware of his nephew’s political views or the reasons behind his attempt to kill Trump.

More than a dozen guns were seized from the family’s Bethel Park residence, according to the authorities, who also stated that the family is assisting with the investigation.

The gunman graduated from the Community College of Allegheny County in May with an associate’s degree in engineering science, around the time authorities claim he was researching explosives online. According to a buddy, he discussed going into mechanical engineering.
