Last year, Cheney publicly resigned from Congress after criticizing her own party for backing Trump. Being one of the most outspoken Republican critics of Trump and his role in the insurrection, she lost her August 2022 primary to now-Rep. Harriet Hageman (R-Wyo.).
During her campaign last year for Democratic candidate for Representative from Michigan, Elissa Slotkin, she declared that “we have to walk away from politics as usual” if the nation wished to preserve its democracy.
Cheney’s publisher claims that her book will clarify her decision to risk “her career, her seat, and her position in leadership to do what she knew was right” by standing alone against her party.
Earlier this year, the former legislator became a professor at the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics. Her appointment was made for the duration of the fall semester in the department, with the possibility of a one-year extension.
Cheney stated in October that she is not ruling out running for president. She declared in an interview with CNN that she believes Trump is the “single most dangerous threat we face” and that she will assist in the election of leaders who will defend election outcomes from future challenges.
