Hundreds of teams will be dreaming of money-spinning ties against the Premier League giants when the FA Cup kicks off for the 2022/23 season, kicking off a competition that will last around 10 months.
An away trip to a stadium like Liverpool’s Anfield could be financially transformative for clubs at the bottom of the English pyramid, while upsets of the sort enjoyed by Middlesbrough against Manchester United at Old Trafford in 2022 are often the highlight of the season for the winners.
Liverpool will defend the title they won in dramatic fashion against Chelsea in May 2022, beating the Blues on penalties at Wembley for the second time in less than three months to add the trophy to their EFL Cup glory.
This season’s competition is sure to be unusual even before the action begins on the pitch. Here’s how it looks:

When are the 2022/23 FA Cup round dates?
The FA Cup officially starts on the same weekend as the Premier League kicks off, pitting non-league teams against each other in the preliminary rounds in early August.
The minnows will have to play as many as six qualifying rounds before the first round in early November when England’s bottom two league divisions – League One and League Two – join the party.
There are almost always memorable upsets at that stage of the tournament, though the biggest giant kills come in early January.
At that point, 20 Premier League teams and 24 clubs from the second tier, the Championship, begin their campaigns.

When is the FA Cup final 2023?
That deadline, June 3, traditionally represents the showpiece end of England’s regular domestic season.
Although the semi-finals at this point have already been won at Wembley, the National Stadium remains an iconic day in the sporting calendar.
Wembley is undoubtedly the most prestigious venue that many supporters can hope to see their teams play in, especially for fans unfamiliar with their clubs reaching the final.
The stage of the FA Cup at 3 pm on a Saturday in May has long been considered sacred. In recent times, however, kick-off has tended to be later in the day. In 2022/23, the final started at the odd time of 4:45 pm due to the Eurovision Song Contest.
Are Premier League teams playing on the same day as the FA Cup Final?
There was a time when the idea of Premier League games being played within hours of the final seemed ludicrous, but those days now seem as distant a memory as the sanctity of the 3 pm kick-off time.
Manchester United won the Premier League on the day of 2011 final, and in the following two years, a league game took place on the final date.
The FA said it was responding to popular demand from fans and the media when it decided to schedule the final after the closing round of league matches again from 2014.
In 2023, the final will take place a week after the Premier League season ends on May 28.
Will the 2022 FIFA World Cup affect the FA Cup final?
The 2022/23 season in Europe is set to have an unprecedented schedule in its history, with leagues around the world negotiating the disruption caused by the World Cup in November and December.
The Premier League season starts at its earliest date to allow for a break in games for the World Cup, and the FA Cup final will take place for the first time in June.
The changes implemented by the first World Cup this winter will no doubt be widely unpopular with many fans – especially purists – and managers.
If the English teams reach the UEFA Champions League final on June 10, their players who are participating in the World Cup will have played for more than 10 months without any significant break.
