The Houthis of Yemen have entered the Israel–Hamas fight, which is raging more than 1,000 miles from their capital city of Sanaa. On October 31, they declared that they had launched missiles and drones at Israel, highlighting the conflict’s regional hazards.
Here are a few specifics regarding the team.
History
The Zaydi sect of Shi’ite Islam, which had formerly governed Yemen but whose northern stronghold had become destitute and marginalized, saw a religious revival movement in the late 1990s, spearheaded by the Houthi family in far north Yemen.
They engaged in a number of guerilla battles with the national army and a brief border skirmish with Saudi Arabia, a major Sunni power, as tensions with the government increased.
YEMENI WAR
The Houthis’ capture of Sanaa in late 2014 marked the start of the conflict. Saudi Arabia led a coalition backed by the West to intervene in support of the Saudi-sponsored administration in March 2015, citing concerns over the growing influence of Shi’ite Iran near its border.
The internationally recognized government established its base in Aden, while the Houthis took control of most of the north and other major population centers.
With a U.N.-led peace drive, Yemen has experienced more than a year of relative calm. In an attempt to get out of the conflict, Saudi Arabia has been in talks with the Houthis.
However, the chances of war for Saudi Arabia have escalated as a result of the Houthi strikes on Israel.
Israel is attacked by Houthi
In a televised broadcast, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree announced that the organization had launched a “large number” of drones and ballistic missiles towards Israel on October 31 and that more strikes of this like will follow “to help the Palestinians to victory”.
According to Saree, there have been three Houthi attacks on Israel since the conflict began. This seems to confirm that they were responsible for two incidents: the U.S. navy intercepted three cruise missiles on October 19, and the Houthis were blamed for explosions in Egypt following a drone attack on October 28.
QUESTION: WHAT IS THE ATTACK’S AIM?
The Houthis have supported the Palestinians since Hamas invaded Israel, and they are a member of the “Axis of Resistance” that is supported by Iran.
Israel’s “continued crimes” are expanding the “circle of conflict” in the Middle East, according to Saree, who blamed Israel for the instability in the region. Attacks would be launched by the Houthis “until the Israeli aggression stops”.
“Death to America, Death to Israel, curse the Jews, and victory to Islam” is the motto of the Houthis.
RELATIVES TO IRAN
During the Yemen war, the Houthis have attacked Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, focusing on critical infrastructure and oil stations, and showcasing their missile and drone capabilities.
Iran is accused by the coalition led by Saudi Arabia of equipping, training, and financing the Houthis. The group claims to develop its own weaponry and denies being an Iranian proxy.
