The moment Marcus Semien of the Texas Rangers made some extraordinary history at the plate on Wednesday night, he added the cherry on top of his team’s World Series-winning victory.

In the top of the ninth inning, Semien smashed a two-run home ball to put the Arizona Diamondbacks behind him 5-0. For Semien and the Rangers, who won Game 5 to win their first title in team history, it was the icing on the cake.

With a.224 batting average and a.635 OPS at the end of the postseason, the two-time All-Star concluded the evening 2-for-5. It is hardly surprising that Semien, an infielder, missed no games throughout the playoffs.

Over the last four complete regular seasons, Semien has missed just one game. In 2023, he will play all 162 games. Semien left himself just enough time in October to achieve a new record by going on 17 more games after that.

Eighty-five plate appearances were recorded by Semien during the regular season and postseason combined. That surpasses Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Lenny Dykstra’s 833 from the 1993 season to become the most in an MLB single season ever.

Outfielder Juan Pierre of the Florida Marlins is ranked third with 830 from around 2003, while legendary Cincinnati Reds player Pete Rose recorded 811 in 1975. Alfonso Soriano, a second baseman with the New York Yankees, finished 2003 with 809.

In addition to 202 hits, 42 doubles, five triples, 32 home runs, 78 walks, and a championship ring, Semien was able to turn all those plate appearances into something special.

The Iron Man of the Rangers was the only player on the field and at the plate for every game from March 30 to November 1. He may not have won World Series MVP.
