According to authorities, a heated argument over sauce outside a McDonald’s in Washington, D.C. resulted in the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old.

According to a news statement from the nation’s capital’s Metropolitan Police, Naima Liggon of Waldorf, Maryland, perished in the early Sunday violence.

The stabbing, according to police, took place in front of a McDonald’s in the 1900 block of 14th Street, Northwest.

According to the police, Liggon was driven in a private vehicle to the hospital. Just after two in the morning, police were called to a hospital for a complaint of a teenage girl with stab wounds; nevertheless, despite their best attempts, she was pronounced dead.

Later on Sunday, according to police, a 16-year-old Waldorf resident was also arrested and had a knife in her hands.

She is charged with carrying a dangerous weapon, assault with the intent to kill, aggravated assault, and second-degree murder while carrying a weapon, according to NBC Washington.

Detective Brendan Jasper claimed that Liggon was stabbed during a dispute over “sweet-and-sour sauce” among three girls outside the McDonald’s just after 2 a.m. when the adolescent appeared at a hearing on Monday in D.C. Superior Court, according to The Washington Post.

He said that after Liggon and another girl started punching the 16-year-old suspect, the suspect allegedly “lunged” at Liggon with a 7 1/2-inch pocketknife, striking her in the chest and abdomen. As they attempted to get inside the car, he continued to hit Liggon.

According to The Post, the charged kid entered a juvenile plea of not guilty by reason of not being involved. As the lone person who carried a knife to a fistfight, the prosecution claimed, she acted in self-defense in the altercation begun by the others. Her attorney disagreed.

According to the site, D.C. Superior Court Judge Sherri Beatty-Arthur stated, “At the end of the day, somebody is dead over a dispute over sauce.”

Thomas Stone High School in Waldorf was Liggon’s place of attendance.

In an effort to crack down on violent juvenile crime, Washington, D.C. will implement a curfew for children in some locations starting on Friday. Children under the age of 16 are prohibited from being on the streets from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. on weekdays and from midnight to 6 a.m. on weekends. Before the stabbing, the curfew arrangements were made.
