Every NFL MVP award over the past ten years has gone to a quarterback. When Adrian Peterson broke the 2,000-yard rushing barrier in 2012, he became the first non-signaler to win the league’s MVP award. Despite the fact that it may be a long shot, Christian McCaffrey of the San Francisco 49ers left tackle Trent Williams believes he has a chance to break the QB stranglehold over the award.

Hey, all those streaks end at some point, right? Williams stated through ESPN. “This year could be the one. I am aware of that.

In Sunday’s 35-16 victory, McCaffrey made his case clearly by hammering the Arizona Cardinals in every direction for 106 rushing yards on 20 runs and three ground touchdowns. On seven catches, he added 71 receiving yards and a further touchdown.

Williams claimed that although he knew CMC was “really good” before the 49ers acquired him in a trade about a year ago, he was unaware of just how excellent.

Every Sunday is a wonderful surprise, according to Williams. He never ceases to astonish me, leaping over a safety, standing up, and scoring a touchdown. It simply is stunning.

McCaffrey and Hall of Famer Jerry Rice became the only 49ers players to record at least 150 scrimmage yards and four touchdowns in a single game on Sunday (Rice accomplished this feat twice). The four touchdowns were the most in a single game in CMC’s career and were second in San Francisco history for scrimmage TDs (behind Rice’s five).

CMC has scored a scrimmage touchdown in at least 13 straight games, including playoffs, making him the seventh player in NFL history to do it. He now has the longest streak in 49ers history, surpassing Jerry Rice’s 12 games, and is only surpassed by Hall of Famers O.J. Simpson (15), John Riggins (15), Lenny Moore (15), and Emmitt Smith (14).

As of Monday night’s game, McCaffrey is tied for the league lead with six rushing touchdowns & seven scrimmage scores. He also leads the NFL in rushing with 459 yards (131 more than D’Andre Swift at No. 1). He leads all players in scrimmage yards with 600 after four games, surpassing Justin Jefferson’s 543.

Kyle Shanahan, the coach, said: “I’m not sure about the rest of the league right now, but I felt he played like [an MVP] the year before when he was here. “Christian’s so awesome, he assists us win every time he’s on the field, but when you have a guy who can do it all, you can always have amazing stats, but he shares it with a lot of other guys so we do whatever it takes to win,” the player said. Therefore, based only on the statistics and the way the situation plays out, it is what I believe would be the hardest for him.

The NFL MVP has evolved into a quarterback award, yet if McCaffrey stays healthy and keeps up his stellar play, and the 49ers dominate the NFC during the regular season, then maybe — just maybe — the voters may start to change. Of course, if the Niners are the league’s greatest team, CMC might have to defeat Brock Purdy, who completed just one pass out of 21 attempts on Sunday.
