More information about remarks Billie Eilish made in a recent magazine interview is becoming available.
At Variety’s annual Hitmakers Brunch event on Saturday, the pop superstar, 21, spoke with the magazine about her statement last month in the Power of Women issue about being “attracted to” women.
When Variety asked Eilish if she had intended to come out in the article, she responded, “No, I didn’t.” “However, I kind of felt, ‘Wasn’t it obvious?’ I didn’t realize people weren’t aware of it.”
She continued, “I just don’t believe in it,” about the idea of coming out. “All I can think is, ‘Why can’t we just be?'” I’ve been doing this for a while, but I never mentioned it. Whoops.
“I saw the article and then I was like, oh… I guess… I came out today!” Eilish said in response to being asked to republish her words. She explained.
“Alright, neat,” the Grammy winner continued. “But it’s thrilling to me because I believe people didn’t know… yet it’s cool that they know.”
“Oh, I’m nervous about talking about it,” she remarked after that. Finally, he said, “But… I am for the girls.”
The “What Was I Made For?” singer talked about her attraction to women in Variety’s The Power of Women issue, as was previously reported. She also talked about her suspicion that other women don’t like her. “I never truly felt like I was able to relate to girls very well,” she stated.
“I have a great love for women.” As a people, I adore them. As people, they draw me in. I am attracted to them,” Eilish continued.
“I have close relationships with the women, friends, and family I have in my life. They have a physical attraction to me. But their presence, their beauty, and they intimidate me so much,” she went on.
The singer-songwriter gave an emotional acceptance speech at Variety’s Power of Women event last month, expressing her pride in being a woman even though she had “spent a lot of my life never feeling like I fit in for being a woman.”
“I think that insecurity caused me to become almost very ‘pick me’ about it for a couple of years,” she remarked. “Oh, I’m not like other girls because I don’t do this and this.” “I’m so much more passionate about being like other girls since other girls are f—ing tight, and I love women, so I’ve grown to be resentful of that time.”
“I know this sounds kind of f—ed up, but I find that a lot of internalized misogyny comes out in places where I don’t want it to,” Eilish said. And I have to be completely honest here: I am extremely appreciative to be a woman at this time. Being here makes me feel incredibly honored and proud.
In addition to receiving her most recent accolades from Variety, Eilish has had a tremendous year professionally. She has been nominated for six Grammy Awards in total for the 2024 ceremony. Despite not releasing a studio album in 2018, she is now among the 12 most nominated acts of the year thanks to the nominations, which were revealed last month.
Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance, Best Song Written for Visual Media, and Best Music Video for “What Was I Made For?” from the Barbie soundtrack are among the categories in which Eilish is nominated for the 66th annual awards ceremony.
A nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance was also earned by her due to her inclusion in Labrinth’s song “Never Felt So Alone.”
On February 4, the Grammy Awards will be held at the Crypto.com arena in Los Angeles.
