Chris Olave, a wide receiver with the New Orleans Saints, was detained on suspicion of careless driving on Monday night in Kenner, Louisiana.
Olave, according to police, was traveling 70 mph in a 35 mph zone on Joe Yenni Boulevard, which the Kenner Police Department described as a “mixed business/residential area.”
Police said they saw Olave’s Dodge Charger “traveling at a high rate of speed, recklessly swerving between lanes and around other drivers on the roadway.”
The Saints claimed to be aware of the circumstance but had nothing further to add.
Olave, 23, was arrested Monday night and released from the Kenner jail at 11:30 p.m.
Following a Thursday night game last week, the Saints were granted the weekend off and did not train on Monday. Players had to report to the facility in Kenner on Monday afternoon as the Saints continued to hold meetings.
Olave, who is in his second season with the Saints, is the team’s top receiver with 39 receptions for 471 yards and a score.
On Sunday, the New Orleans Saints play the Indianapolis Colts.
