Amidst a legal dispute involving a restraining order against his longstanding business and musical collaborator John Oates, Daryl Hall performed a concert featuring a repertoire of hits from Hall & Oates.
On November 23, Hall performed a number of the duo’s greatest hits live at the Tokyo Garden Theater in Japan, including “Out of Touch,” “I Can’t Go for That (No Can Do),” and “Private Eyes.”
Todd Rundgren, a classic rock star, was also present at the event.
The news that Hall had filed a motion for a temporary restraining order and an undisclosed complaint against Oates on November 16 shocked fans of Hall & Oates. After being approved, the restraining order will take effect on November 30. Since the court has sealed the records, not much is known about the lawsuit.
After forming in 1970, Hall & Oates put out their self-titled debut album in 1972. They had six No. 1 hits during their phenomenally successful career, including “Maneater” and “Rich Girl.” Over the years, Hall & Oates have pursued separate solo careers as well as joint tours as recently as October 2022.
During a 2021 interview with GQ, Oates played down any conflict in their long-term working relationship.
“To tell the truth, there have been a lot more ups than downs,” he remarked. It truly is a miracle, and I’m genuinely amazed that we can still play together. It’s fantastic. It’s something you have to truly value because, as you mentioned, it’s not simple.
