In an effort to differentiate himself from the Washington “elites,” President Joe Biden is trying to portray his fight to keep his candidacy.
However, in interviews, party chairs, battlefield leaders, ordinary Democrats, and elected officials claim that Biden has it completely backwards.
They claim that despite their grave worries about Biden and the reluctance of voters to support him, which has been evident in poll after poll, they have been unable to take anything due to the Democratic Party and White House being controlled by Biden.
One Democratic state party chair expressed her desire that she had more bravery and believes that Biden ought to resign. The speaker requested anonymity out of concern for the president’s administration’s reaction.
The chair went on, “If I spoke out of line, they would crucify me.” “I understand that when you step out of line, they suddenly change their priorities, and your state and race disappear from the map.”
They claim it’s happening again now.
Power brokers are falling in line behind Biden, some even expressing serious doubts about him, even after his disastrous debate performance that sparked calls for him to step down, new information from those close to the president expressing concerns about his mental acuity, and warning signs about future fundraising.
However, according to several Democratic sources on Tuesday, that support felt less like a jubilant endorsement of a party nominee and more like a death march to November.
A presidential ally stated, “No one is excited.” “Expectations for Biden are very low moving forward.”
In starker terms, a different Democratic House member expressed it.
The president’s protective and delusional appearance has greatly irritated the populace. The person remarked, “He’s like the grandfather who won’t give up the vehicle keys even though it’s no longer safe for him to drive. “There’s also a growing resignation to the fact that, should Joe Biden insist on continuing as our nominee, we will have to salvage something positive from a precarious situation as we approach the most consequential presidential race in American history.”
Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., and three other Democratic members of Congress informed colleagues over the phone on Sunday that Biden ought to resign.
Tuesday, Nadler had a change of heart.
“It doesn’t matter if I’m worried or not,” Nadler told reporters on Tuesday. “He will be our nominee, and we must all give him our support.”
In private, a different congressman voiced serious worries about Biden and expressed anxiety that one more significant mistake may spell disaster for the Democrats. However, the speaker acknowledged their helplessness as a lone member speaking up without the support of the leadership.
I’m a pragmatic, but I could say anything. Would it make a difference? Would it make a difference? The House member stated, “Without a leader stepping up, I don’t think any rank-and-file member will be able to change that situation.” I belong to the group of athletes who chose to remain silent in the expectation that he would act morally. However, he is opting to remain.
Biden has been playing cleanup in the twelve days since he stammered, froze, trailed off, and occasionally even found it difficult to finish a sentence during the debate with former President Donald Trump.
Speaking under anonymity, a second Democratic state party chair added, “Remove the argument from it and focus only on the past few weeks.” “Will he be able to create a story and spread a message, or will this be the topic of every public event?”
Naturally, things are still changing. Although Biden has reiterated this week that he will not withdraw from the 2024 campaign, there are still calls for him to do so, and things could yet change.
According to both state party leaders, there are concerns inside the party that Democratic voters may lose interest in Biden and that other candidates farther down the ticket may suffer along with him if he loses.
The second chair said, “I’ve spoken to most chairs, and they’re afraid.”
According to some Democrats, the president has allowed negative chatter about his campaign to spread widely and take center stage in a race that ought to be entirely focused on Trump because he has taken too long to repair the damage with his own party.
A Democratic organizer in a battleground state described a party in disarray, with some members really questioning not just Biden’s age but also his suitability for the position. The source claimed that some are prepared to support Biden in order to put an end to the suffering and move on.
We seem to be reliving the events of 2016, when we were torn apart in that primary and never reconciled. We in these swing states find it quite frustrating. We can only win; we cannot lose,” the individual uttered. Nobody truly knows how this will be settled in the end. There is no escape.
In an effort to lessen the impact, the White House and the campaign have contacted lawmakers, briefed governors, and fielded calls from supporters and the campaign. Additionally, Biden was supposed to speak with mayors on Tuesday.
Backlash followed from some of those calls itself; some people said they were gaslighted and others complained they weren’t given a chance to voice their opinions. Furthermore, his campaign maintains that the president still enjoys a great deal of support from the grassroots level, citing as evidence the 864,000 new donors who contributed during the most recent fundraising quarter and the fact that 2024 campaign volunteers signed up for three times as many organizing shifts following the debate.
Reiterating that he was selected by millions of voters in the primaries, Biden and his team contend that disregarding him would be to undervalue the will of those voters. In interviews, a few Democrats retorted that those voters lacked the same knowledge at the time, citing the cognitive issues posed by Biden’s debate performance.
It is expected that Biden’s next unusual news conference on Thursday would serve as yet another assessment of his mental sharpness.
In a phone interview with MSNBC on Monday, Biden declared he would not bow to the demands of the “elites” who desired his resignation. The president announced his intention to continue running in a letter to Democrats in Congress.
If I didn’t firmly think that I was the most qualified opponent of Donald Trump in 2024, I wouldn’t be running for office again, Biden wrote. “We held a Democratic nomination process, and the electorate made their voice heard loud and clear.”
“For more than a week, there has been much discussion about how to proceed. And it’s time to put an end to it. We just have one task. Moreover, Biden stated, “that is to defeat Donald Trump.” “Any waning of determination or ambiguity regarding the task head serves Trump and harms us.”
Nevertheless, even that created a commotion among Congress Democrats, some of whom claimed they never received the letter and had to learn about it from the media.
“I don’t think anything he’s done has eased my concerns; I’m still worried. We witness it all, whether it’s the Wisconsin rally or the one in North Carolina,” a Democratic congressman stated. “I’m worried. However, I will support the president’s judgment about what to do with his legacy going forward.
The resignation of the first party chair was comparable.
“I can’t make Biden think differently. I’m going to roll with whatever is in front of me and do all within my power to prevail,” the individual declared. “I simply don’t think they care about our voice.”
