During a break in practice on Tuesday, Vice President Kamala Harris had a conversation with the American men’s basketball Olympic team. Head coach Steve Kerr brought her to the star-studded gathering of players as she entered the court at 4:23 p.m. ET.
Prior to her conversation with the squad at Mendenhall Arena, home of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Harris shook hands with Steph Curry, a star for the Golden State Warriors.
“The whole country is supporting you.” We are so happy for you,” she exclaimed. “Take that gold back from Paris.”
After shaking hands with Anthony Edwards, LeBron James, and Devin Booker, she snapped a picture with the whole team.
Wednesday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, the U.S. team—which is filled with potential Hall of Famers like Curry, James, Kevin Durant, and Kawhi Leonard—plays Canada in an exhibition match. On July 28, it takes on Serbia in the Olympic gold medal match.
It was awesome. After practice, Durant remarked, “We have her support.” It’s an honor for her to stop over and say hello because she’s been working here and has a busy life. I’m relieved she managed to make it through.
Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo said that Harris kept it quick when asked what specifically she informed the squad.
“Take home the gold. Brief, pleasant, and direct,” he remarked. It’s a fantastic time that she could communicate to us here. I will be able to share that with my kid’s kid’s kids.
Prior to the official launch of AANHPI Voters for Biden-Harris, the campaign’s newest coalition for voters who identify as Asian American, Native Hawaiian, or Pacific Islanders, Harris made a stop to UNLV. At the gathering off the Las Vegas strip, she spoke in front of around 200 attendees.
The election that took place in November between Harris and the former president Donald Trump was dubbed the most “the most significant and lasting election of our time.”
“This was always going to be a tough election,” the woman remarked. The last few days have also served as a reminder that it is never easy to run for president of the United States, but one thing is certain about Joe Biden: he is a warrior. He also says it first: “You get back up after getting knocked down.”
Harris’s engagement in the world of basketball predates Tuesday. Harris, a former California senator, has hosted the San Francisco Bay Area team, the Warriors, at the White House and has attended several Golden State games in the past few years.
After learning that she is from Oakland, Kerr, the Warriors’ coach, claimed to have “met her many times.”
Kerr commented, “It serves as a fantastic reminder that we are representing our nation.” She loves the Warriors. She adores basketball and our squad.”
Doug Emhoff, the second gentleman “is, regrettably, a Lakers fan,” Kerr continued.
