Celebrity model Elle Macpherson disclosed on Monday that she had been avoiding chemotherapy for the past seven years despite being diagnosed with breast cancer.

The 60-year-old gave an explanation of her decision to forgo regular therapy in favor of what she called a more “holistic” approach in an interview with Australian Women’s Weekly.

Regarding the diagnosis, the Sports Illustrated swimsuit model described it as “It was unexpected, strange, shocking, and intimidating in a lot of ways” in an interview that was released on Monday. “And it truly provided me with the chance to delve deeply into my intuition in order to discover a solution that satisfied me.”

Macpherson, who is writing a book called “elle,” stated that choosing this unconventional route was challenging for her.

“A balanced strategy was my choice. Refusing conventional medical remedies was the most difficult thing I have ever done. However, rejecting my inner intuition would have been much more difficult,” she stated, with some excerpts cited by Australian Women’s Weekly.

“A genuine decision made from the heart doesn’t always make sense to others, but it doesn’t have to.”

Granted, this strategy isn’t suitable for everyone.

“Although I felt I had to make a decision that genuinely spoke to me, people thought I was insane” Macpherson wrote. In my opinion, this entailed attending to both the psychological and physiological aspects linked to breast cancer. It was time to think deeply and inwardly. And it required guts to do that.

Flynn, 19, and Cy, 14, Macpherson’s two kids, argued over their mother’s decisions.

All Cy knew was that chemotherapy kills. Because he believed it to be a kiss of death, he never wanted me to do it,” she wrote. Flynn, who was more traditional, didn’t feel at all at ease with my decision. But since he is my son, he would love and support me no matter what, even if he didn’t agree with my decisions. In their unique ways, my children were incredibly supportive, but I knew they were afraid.

Australian Women’s Weekly reports that her medical team includes therapists, a chiropractor, an osteopath, a holistic dentist, and a naturopathy practitioner.

She’s still with us today.

I would describe myself as completely well, but medical professionals would say I’m in clinical remission. I am, too! stated Macpherson.

Actually, from all angles, including blood tests, scans, and imaging tests… not just physically, but also psychologically, emotionally, and spiritually. It’s not just about what your blood tests indicate; it’s also about how and why you are leading a full life.”
