Chandler Jones’ depressing downward trajectory took further grave turns on Thursday. The former Patriots assistant coach Josh McDaniels was the target of Jones’ irrational claims on social media. Later, during a video in which he claimed former teammate Aaron Hernandez did not, in fact, commit himself in prison, Jones broke down in tears.
The Las Vegas Raiders, Jones’ current squad, are led by McDaniels. In 2017, Hernandez, a former Patriots star tight end who had been found guilty of murder, was discovered dead in his cell.
Jones claimed this week that he was “against my will” transported to a mental health institution, but he is now reportedly out and listed on the Raiders’ non-football injury list.
In a tweet, Jones stated: “Josh McDaniels had the identical twin Aaron Hernandez killed at industrial park, not in jail.”
In other tweets, Jones also referred to Mark Davis, owner of the Raiders, and McDaniels as “slave masters” and displayed a screenshot of the NFL Players Association contacting him.
Jones wept as he broadcasted live on Instagram, shining a torch at the camera, at the idea that people thought Hernandez, or “Rico” as he prefers to be called, committed himself to jail.
Jones returned to Twitter an hour after that broadcast and said, “I’m about to hang with strippers don’t check on my well-being.. they got me,” before adding, “They got me.”
Last December, Jones was the one who bizarrely scored the game-winning touchdown in Las Vegas by returning the “Lunatic Lateral” for the Patriots. His three-year, $51 million free agent contract, which he signed in 2022, is in its second season.
