Mike Williams, a retired NFL wide receiver, passed away last week after sustaining a “massive” head injury at a construction site, according to his family. He was 36.
Wendell Muhammad, Williams’ father, detailed the horrific incident in a GoFundMe post earlier this week. Williams passed away, according to Buffalo’s Spectrum News 1 on Tuesday night.
Muhammad claimed that Williams, who had previously played for both the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Buffalo Bills in his birthplace, “recently had a major accident at work” in the Tampa Bay, Florida, region when “a steel beam fell on his head, causing a massive head injury.”
After being taken by emergency personnel to a Tampa hospital, the former NFL receiver “never regained consciousness,” according to his family.
His father stated that the incident caused swelling in both his brain and his spinal cord, which was ruptured. His right arm and lower torso from the waist down were totally paralyzed as a result of these wounds.
Muhammad stated, “As you likely know, this is terrible for me as it has me distraught,” after describing the incident that murdered his kid.
Williams, a Buffalo, New York native who played high school football at Riverside Institute of Technology, had success in his sport. Prior to being selected by the Buccaneers in the NFL draft in 2010, he played college football at a nearby school called Syracuse.
Before retiring with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2016, the wide receiver played five complete NFL seasons. In his whole career, he caught passes for 3,089 yards and 26 touchdowns.
Gerald McCoy, a former teammate of Williams’s in Tampa Bay, tweeted late on Tuesday night, “Dang man hurts my heart hearing the news of my former teammate & Buccaneers 2010 draft class brother Mike Williams.” “Always had great energy, made the locker room fun and lighthearted, and was a great player!” To his family, we send our prayers and blessings.
