According to a news release, the Coast Guard saved four individuals and a dog from a sinking boat on Sunday in New Jersey.
According to the news release, the 30-foot boat was being utilized for recreational purposes when the Coast Guard response boat discovered it in Barnegat Bay, some 50 miles north of Atlantic City.
The sinking boat capsized shortly after the four people and the dog switched to the recreational boat, according to the Coast Guard, who also stated that the rescue vessel took the four people and the dog to a marina at Lanoka Harbor, about 10 miles to the north. According to the news release, no one was hurt while the boat was sinking.
It was unclear how the four passengers on the boat related to one another.
Chief Warrant Officer James B. Corbisiero, the station’s commanding officer, stated that the boat’s owner thought it was sinking because of a loose plug, but the Coast Guard was unable to verify that notion.
According to the news release, a commercial salvage business pulled the boat to the port at Lanoka Harbor, where the Coast Guard picked up the four individuals and their dog.
BoatUS.org, a nonprofit organization devoted to lowering boating accidents and fatalities, advises boaters to wear life jackets, maintain calm, and stay with the boat if it capsizes or flips over in the water in order to have the greatest chance of being rescued.
