During Wednesday’s morning drop-off, Dundee-Crown High School in the northwest suburbs of Chicago was placed on lockdown for several hours.
The lockdown, according to officials, was caused by a phone call that the school’s front office stated “made a threat regarding our school.”
According to a website alert, the school “contacted law enforcement after receiving the phone call and put the school on lockdown.”
According to the initial message from District 300 Superintendent Susan Harkin, the lockdown was implemented “as a preventative measure” and “all pupils and staff members are safe.” No staff members or kids were permitted to enter or leave the Carpentersville building, according to Harkin.
An advisory on the district’s website instructed families dropping their pupils at Dundee-Crown this morning to wait for the guidance of the building administration until we communicated that the lockdown had been lifted. “Students who travel by bus must wait for the lockdown to be lifted before leaving their bus.”
According to a district official, there was no active shooter involved in the event, and children had a delayed start on Wednesday.
Just after 10 a.m., Harkin provided an update and stated that law enforcement and the district were conducting an investigation.
“Please be advised that neither an event is happening within the building nor outdoors. According to the report, all faculty and staff are secure and under district and building monitoring. “The lockdown was put in place as a precaution.”
Just after 12 o’clock, the lockdown was ended.
The report said that “students & staff are secure and have been told to return inside the building.” “Dundee-Crown will remain open in a shelter-in-place for the rest of the day. During this period, students will stay in the gym, cafeteria, or field house. Any student who requires support services will receive them.
The following reunification advice was provided by the school to parents who wanted to pick up their children:
- Enter the school grounds from the tennis court entrance, which is close to the junior parking lot.
- There will be a blockade at the parking lot’s center entrance.
- You will pick up your student near the tennis courts, then leave using the south exit by turning just to the right onto Kings road.
- When you arrive to pick up your student, kindly bring your ID with you.
Some pupils may be unhappy and want to talk to you about the incident this evening due to the lockdown’s circumstances. The school announced that resources, including counseling help, will be available to kids who may need them today and the rest of the week.
