Jimmy Carter, a former president, and his wife, Rosalynn Carter, were sighted Saturday at a festival in Plains, Georgia, where Jimmy Carter was born.
The former President, 98, & former First Lady, 96, can be seen in a black SUV during the Plains Peanut Festival in a video that was previously posted by The Carter Center.
The President and Mrs. Carter had a lovely day to ride across the Plains Peanut Festival! And only one week before his 99th birthday,” the center stated in a message on the X platform, formerly known as Twitter. We’re willing to wager that lunch will include peanut butter ice cream! #JimmyCarter99.”
The outing occurs seven months after the longest-serving American president, after a string of brief hospital visits, accepted hospice care at his home. At the moment, he declared that he would stop receiving medical treatment moving forward and live at home for the rest of his days. Carter kept her sickness a secret.
The former first lady was identified as having dementia a few months later, in May.
The pair is content, according to Jason Carter, chairman of the Carter Center’s board of trustees, who spoke with USA Today last week. In July, they celebrated their 77th wedding anniversary.
“They are a unit. In their home. I don’t think anyone gets more than being in love, and they are,” he remarked. It’s the ideal scenario for them at this point in their lives, in other words.
Jason Carter remarked, “They’re both doing about as well as can be expected.
The former president has experienced a number of health issues. He was identified as having melanoma cancer in August 2015, which had progressed to his liver and brain. He was later confirmed cancer-free. He fell in 2019, had a black eye, and eventually ended up in the hospital with a fractured pelvis.
