In an interview with People that was published on Saturday, the grandson of former President Jimmy Carter & his wife Rosalynn Carter stated that “it’s clear we’re in the final chapter.”
In February, Jimmy Carter, 98, enrolled in hospice care. The former president underwent surgery to relieve pressure on his head after beating brain cancer in 2015 but experienced a string of health concerns in 2019.
According to Josh Carter, the only recent visits to the Carters’ Georgia home have been by family and carers. Nevertheless, he claimed that “there’s always someone at the house” to keep the Carters company.
A representative for The Carter Center declined to respond to a question from CNN about the interview.
According to Josh Carter, his grandfather “is still fully Jimmy Carter.” Even though he is close to 99 years old, he is aware of and appreciates the affection that has been shown to him.
Rosalynn Carter, who has dementia, is aware of her diagnosis, according to Josh Carter, who also claimed that she gave her approval for the press release announcing it in May.
For the most part, she still recognizes us as family, according to Josh Carter. Creating new memories is still possible for my grandmother.
The former president’s grandson acknowledged that it must be difficult for Jimmy Carter to watch his wife lose some of her memories, but said that “they’ve experienced all that you can together.” That they are still together, in my opinion, is beautiful.
Josh Carter continued, “It’s really remarkable that they are still holding hands.
With 77 years of marriage, Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter are the longest-married presidential couple. The Carters have collectively changed what it means to be a former first family. Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, established The Carter Center in the years following his administration in an effort to advance global health and peace. Over the years, the center has sought to promote democracy by keeping track of elections held abroad and lowering sickness rates in poor nations.
Jimmy Carter has volunteered for Habitat for Humanity for a very long period. For his efforts to promote peace all around the world, he was also awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.
Before entering politics, Democrat Jimmy Carter worked as a peanut farmer and served as a lieutenant in the US Navy. He later held the office of president of the United States from 1977 to 1981 and completed one term as governor of Georgia.
