Argentina captain Messi’s contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires at the end of the season.
Now he is in line for a sensational move to David Beckham’s MLS side Inter Miami, managed by his former Manchester United teammate Phil Neville.
Miami finished sixth in the Western Conference last season in just its second year in MLS.
They are eager to mount a championship charge and Messi would represent a huge statement of intent.
Seven-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi has been at PSG since 2021 following his emotional exit from Barcelona.
He penned a two-year contract but struggled in his first season in Ligue 1 before finding his feet in France this term.
Messi has managed just 11 goals in all competitions and only surpassed that mark in the first half of the season.
Speculation is rife as to what will happen when his contract expires at the age of 35.
Barcelona has always insisted on welcoming him with open arms.
PSG president Nasser Al-Khelafi Al-Khelafi recently gave an exclusive interview to TalkSPORT’s Jim White at the Qatar World Cup and said: “He is with us. He is a Paris Saint-Germain player and we have a contract. He has a contract with us and we will see at the end of the season. He is Happy in Paris.
Messi has said that he will decide on his future after the World Cup.
He said: “[My future] depends on how I feel personally and physically above all else. After this World Cup, we will see what can happen in my career.
But now it looks like he might be Miami-bound.
