President Barack Obama made his political career here, but on Tuesday he came home to assume the mantle of an aging statesman.
“I’m glad to be back home!” Obama was greeted at the United Center with an almost unbearable reception. “Maybe it’s just me, but I’m feeling really motivated!”
The wistful allusion to Obama’s catchphrase, “Fired up! “All set to go!” elicited another roar.
As the evening’s closer, he followed his wife, former first lady Michelle Obama, and woven together practical Democratic ideas with what he considered the party’s agenda. One of the few speakers to do so on Tuesday night, he paid tribute to his former vice president, Joe Biden, saying the choice was among his best.
He urged Americans to reject division that develops into irrational animosity toward one another. Obama argued in favor of Kamala Harris by listing her achievements as California’s attorney general and then as vice president, claiming that she battled the pharmaceutical industry and the astronomical cost of insulin while also contributing to the reduction of medical expenses.
Obama also criticized former President Donald Trump during this time, calling him out on his “weird obsession with crowd sizes” and making a tiny gesture with his hands. He laughed so hard at that line that night.
Obama remarked to applause, “We don’t need four more years of instability, bluster, and clumsiness.” “That movie has already been seen, and we all know that sequels are usually worse.”
Obama also expressed gratitude to Harris’ campaign mate, Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota.
The governor’s wife, Gwen Walz, then appeared on the arena’s large video screen and gestured as though she agreed heartily.
Obama drew more jokes that made people laugh a lot.
Obama chuckled as he remarked, “The other day, I heard someone liken Trump to your neighbor who constantly blows leaves outside your window for the entirety of the day.” “Now, coming from a neighbor, that is tiresome. In actuality, Donald Trump views authority as only a tool to further his goals.”
“More personal jabs from disillusioned Democrats who lack substantive answers to the issues that ordinary Americans encounter,” Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung said in an NBC News statement. This is the reason why Kamala and the Democrats will fail in November; they are more concerned with resolving personal issues than assisting others.”
Obama also advocated for the United States to be a “force for good” in the globe during his speech on Tuesday night.
Obama declared, “We shouldn’t be the world’s police force.” “America has the potential to and ought to be a force for good, battling illness, advancing human rights, and defending the environment against climate change. Not all injustice and cruelty can be eliminated from the world.”
Obama’s manager during his second presidential campaign, Jim Messina, stated on Tuesday that Obama’s job was to help put the current political climate in perspective.
He told NBC News, “Essentially, tonight is about his taking on the role of chief explanation to elucidate this moment.” People tend to forget that he was the first to predict Kamala’s stardom. He told us all to “watch the attorney general in California; she’s really good” when she was the attorney general.
Harris has completely flipped Biden’s previous campaign. The sum that Harris’ campaign has raised since the president resigned on July 21 is astounding: around $500 million.
Messina remarked, “That is absurd, and it demonstrates the fervor among the people,” citing the large turnout for Harris’ Tuesday performance in Milwaukee.
When asked if Harris’s current situation was similar to Obama’s voter-influencing magic in 2008, Messina replied that there was still opportunity for improvement. He claimed that the Harris campaign was still in the early stages of developing into “a movement.”
He declared, “We’re not there yet.”
