When Britney Spears had her brief relationship with Colin Farrell, she was still in shock over her split from Justin Timberlake.
In her new biography The Woman in Me, Spears, 41, discusses her famous 2003 romance with the Irish actor, 47, and reveals that they began dating following her breakup with Justin Timberlake in March 2002.
The singer of “Piece of Me” claims to have met the actor while he was filming the action movie S.W.A.T. in 2003.
Spears and Farrell engaged in “a two-week brawl,” according to her account in the book. The only term to describe it is “brawl” since we were fighting so ferociously that it looked like a street brawl.
Shortly after, Spears and Farrell, who was 26 at the time, made their relationship public when the actor invited the pop sensation to the January 2003 premiere of his film The Recruit.
When Spears is still fixated on Timberlake, she attempts to resist becoming “too attached” to Farrell in her book.
“As I had before when I’d felt too attached to a man, I struggled to convince myself in every possible manner that it was not an issue, that we were just having fun, and that in this case I was susceptible because I wasn’t over Justin yet,” she says.
Farrell discussed their friendship with reporters at the premiere.
At the premiere, he declared, “We’re not dating,” according to Entertainment Weekly. She is a lovely young lady. Nothing is happening; just friends.
The two welcomed kids Sean Preston, 18, and Jayden James, 17, before divorcing in 2007. Spears then wed her second husband Kevin Federline in 2004. In the meantime, Farrell has two children: son Henry, 14, and son James, 20, both with actress Alicja Bachleda-Curu.
Following the end of her 13-year conservatorship in 2021, Spears is now recovering her voice.
She told PEOPLE via email in an interview for this week’s cover story: “Over the previous 15 years or even at the beginning of my career, I sat back while people talked about me and told my story for me. “After being released from conservatorship, I was at last able to share my story without fear of repercussions from those who were in charge of my life.”
