There are normally two types of first dates that people who are actively looking for “The One” share with friends along family: the romantic first date, often known as the “I knew they were the one right away,” type, and the terrible first date that leaves you feeling that finding genuine love is an impossibility. The Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce & his wife Kylie McDevitt, however, are one pair who demonstrate that love can blossom even from the most disastrous first encounters.
The couple’s story has gained attention in large part because Taylor Swift, whose dating history has been extensively documented for almost two decades, is dating Travis Kelce, Jason’s younger brother and a fellow NFL star. Swift has been to several Kansas City games, first seeing the Chiefs defeat the Chicago Bears at the end of September and then the New York Jets at the beginning of October. Even while the pop sensation and her boyfriend receive much of the attention in the media, the elder Kelce’s love story is equally compelling, if only for its relatability.
The couple disclosed their Tinder romance on the brothers’ podcast, “New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce.” She was a little dubious when she first saw her future husband’s picture on the dating app.
Either he will appear or a fictitious version of him will. It’s hilarious either way,” a buddy had remarked to McDevitt before she met Jason.
She said in the podcast, according to the New York Post, “Well, his profile at the time was something to the effect; I want to have deep, important conversations and speak about getting married & having kids or something like that. Later, Kylie found his prior Tinder profile, which appeared to be mocking her with the words “I’m very in touch with my emotional side and love to cuddle.” I’m not looking for a hookup. I’m just interested in intimate chats and pregnant women.
Whatever the reason, the remark convinced McDevitt to ask Jason out on a date. Sadly, it wasn’t quite as enjoyable as the NFL star’s ironic profile implied.
McDevitt recounted, “You fell asleep on the bar table 45 minutes after I got there because he was too drunk,” and Jason concurred, “Not a nice first date… I became a little too drunk. Even though it’s not the best appearance, it’s difficult to feel a little sympathy for Jason. Who, after all, hasn’t overindulged before a first date in an effort to relax?
Fortunately for Jason, he wasn’t too lost to see that his person was standing just in front of him. But I was sober enough to realize that it was the most stunning woman I had ever seen. It was true love at first sight, according to Jason.
The snooze-filled first date wasn’t enough to deter Kylie. Wyatt Elizabeth, 4, Elliotte Ray, 2, and Bennett Llewellyn, 7 months, who they welcomed back in February, are the couple’s three children. They were married in April 2018. When the Kelce brothers faced off in the 2023 Super Bowl, Kylie made waves earlier this year. She attended the game with her OB-GYN since she was 38 weeks pregnant.
Therefore, keep in mind that not all first dates are actually representative of where a relationship might go if you’re worried you blew it on a first date with someone especially wonderful. Maybe the guy who slept off on your date will turn out to be your true Prince Charming after all!
