Sen. JD Vance, a Republican from Ohio, claimed on Sunday that he has not had any discussions with former President Donald Trump on his potential vice presidential candidacy.
“Have you received Donald Trump’s call? Has he proposed to you as his running partner? Vance was questioned by moderator Kristen Welker on NBC News’ “Meet the Press.”
On Trump’s short list of possible running mates, Vance stated he has “not gotten the call,” but he would notify the media in the event that he does.
If I ever get that call, we’ll let the media know, he declared. Above all, though, we’re just working to get Donald Trump elected. There are many worthy candidates for vice president, so he has enough to pick from.
Vance backed Trump’s recent statements in the interview demanding the appointment of a special prosecutor to look into President Joe Biden and his family in the event that he is elected to a second term in office.
He remarked, “It’s interesting how much this specific quote has freaked out the Democrats and media.” “Donald Trump is discussing the appointment of a special prosecutor to look into potential wrongdoing by Joe Biden. For the past few years, Joe Biden has engaged in a campaign of lawfare against his political opposition, and he has gone above and beyond in doing so. I believe that Donald Trump is only stating that we should look into the previous government.
Together with Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida and Gov. Doug Burgum of North Dakota, Vance, an Ohio Republican, is one of three Republican senators on Trump’s shortlist to be his running mate. Sources tell NBC News that Vance has emerged as a top contender.
Similarly, Rubio stated that Trump hasn’t decided on his vice presidential candidate during an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
With both Trump and Rubio being residents of Florida, host Dana Bash brought up the fact that presidential electors are not allowed to vote for a president and vice president from the same state under the Constitution. Rubio may have to choose between running for president and resigning from the Senate if Trump selects him as his running mate.
Rubio brushed the suggestion aside, calling it “presumptuous” and stating that he “has no idea” who Trump will choose as his running mate.
Rubio once more stated that he believes “Speaking on any of those topics in public is arrogant” because Trump has not made a decision when pressed by Bash about whether he had considered leaving Florida or the Senate if selected as Trump’s running mate.
“Those conversations will happen regarding whoever he picks when he makes those decisions, regardless of who he chooses,” he stated. But we haven’t arrived yet. But in one way or another, we shall be shortly.
Vance has set himself apart from the other Trump vice presidential candidates with his track record of standing in line with important ideas that are mostly backed by the MAGA voting base. He has headlined multiple Trump fundraisers and is a frequent guest on TV programs.
The eldest son of the previous president, Donald Trump Jr., has also openly endorsed him.
Due to Biden’s dismal performance at the debate stage last month, the announcement of Trump’s running mate was postponed, according to those familiar with the discussions who spoke with NBC News. Trump has hinted that he will make his running mate announcement closer to the Republican National Convention, which gets underway in Milwaukee on July 15.
