Following the discovery of a lady’s remains buried under a firepit in a South Carolina home’s yard earlier this summer, the man has been charged with murder. The woman had been missing for two years.
According to the Myrtle Beach Police Department, Sheridan Dirk Fogle, 54, was the subject of a warrant for his arrest that was served in the 1800 block of Broughton Street in Orangeburg on Thursday. The warrant was related to the death of Penni Whiteside and the missing person case.
When Whiteside vanished from view on May 11, 2022, he and Fogle shared a house in the 600 block of 1st Avenue, according to the police. Her age was fifty-one.
Right now, it’s unclear how Whiteside and Fogle are related.
The Myrtle Beach Police Department sent a news release saying, “After more research, it was determined that there was cause for concern that she might have been buried close to the house, in the backyard beneath a firepit, based on claims made by her neighbors.”
The Horry County Coroner’s office said that on June 12, following a search, Whiteside’s bones were discovered buried in the home’s yard. The coroner’s office did not release the cause of death.
“This is a needless act of violence and a heartbreaking loss of life,” police stated. “Please keep praying for the victim’s friends and family.”
Online records show that Fogle was taken into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center in Horry County on Friday and is still there. He does not have a specified bail amount.
Fogle’s next hearing date and legal representation are currently unknown.
