On Friday, the former president said that he will no longer be taking part in an ABC debate scheduled for September. Instead, he suggested that Vice President Kamala Harris be the subject of a debate on Fox News on September 4.

When Joe Biden was the front-runner for the Democratic nomination, the former president declared, “the ABC debate was agreed to, but Biden will no longer be a participant.”

Additionally, Trump brought up his ongoing lawsuit for defamation against ABC and its anchor, George Stephanopoulos. However, the case was filed in March, and the ABC debate between Biden and Trump was announced in May.

Not many days after Biden withdrew from the campaign and endorsed Harris, Fox News publicly invited Trump and Harris to engage in a discussion on its network in September.

Trump accepted the network’s proposal to have Martha MacCallum and Bret Baier serve as moderators in his Truth Social post.

Trump went on to say that the debate would be held in Pennsylvania in front of a packed arena.

Requests for comment regarding whether or not there would be an audience for the debate were not immediately answered by a Fox News representative.

There was no crowd present at Trump and Biden’s June debate, which took place in an Atlanta CNN studio.

“Fearing for his life, Donald Trump is attempting to back out of the debate he has already committed to and is turning directly to Fox News for support,” claimed Michael Tyler, the director of communications for the Harris campaign, in a statement to NBC News. He must put an end to his shenanigans and attend the debate on September 10th as promised.

In the statement, he said, “In one form or another, the vice president will be present to seize the chance to address a prime-time national audience.” “Following the debate that both camps have already committed to, we are happy to explore additional ones. That shouldn’t be a problem for Mr. Anytime, anywhere, anytime—unless he’s too afraid to turn up on the 10th.

“It is our understanding that ABC wants to grant the airtime to whichever qualifying candidates show up— even if it is just her,” a campaign official added to NBC News.

The same day that Trump posted on Friday on Truth Social, Harris’ campaign launched digital advertisements in local newspapers criticizing Trump on the internet, claiming that the former president is afraid to engage in debate because of his affiliation with Project 2025, a conservative action plan that Trump allies have been working on for the upcoming Republican presidential administration.

“The interesting thing is that “any time, anywhere” turns into “one specific time, one specific safe space”,'” the vice president tweeted on Saturday. As promised, on September 10th, I will be present. That’s where I want to see him.

Her remark alluded to Trump’s declaration that he would debate “anytime, any place” during negotiations with Biden.

Trump reiterated that he would only take part in a debate on Fox and attacked Harris in his initial statement on Saturday afternoon.

The former president stated on Truth Social, “I’ll see her on September 4th or, I won’t see her at all.”

The internet advertisements are consistent with the campaign’s earlier this week rally rhetoric in Atlanta.

Speaking at the Harris event, Sen. Jon Ossoff, D-Ga., claimed that Trump was “too scared” to take on the vice president.

The thousands in attendance began yelling, “He’s scared,” in response. He feels afraid. He feels afraid.

Later that night, Harris herself stood in front of the former president and said, “I sincerely hope you will reconsider meeting me on the debate stage,” Considering that, as they say, “if you got something to say.”

Harris was screamed at by the rally attendees, “Say it to my face!”

Trump also made his statement shortly after a prerecorded interview with Fox Business, during which he said to presenter Maria Bartiromo, “I mean, right now I say why should I have a debate? Everyone is aware of her, and I’m ahead in the polls. Everyone is familiar with me.
